On Saturday, October 18, The Atlanta Writers Club will host a presentation by Dr. David Bottoms, UGA Professor and appointed Georgia Poet Laureate in 2000 and Dr. William Rawlings, a physician, art collector and mystery author.
Visit us at our new location, C-1100 Auditorium in Building NC on the Dunwoody Campus of Georgia Perimeter College at 1:00 p.m. for networking and open microphone readings by members.
From 1:45 to 2:30, we will present Dr. David Bottoms, whose first collection of poetry, “Shooting Rats at the Bib County Dump” earned recognition for the 1979 Walt Whitman Award. He has also written a novel, “Easter Weekend.” His work has appeared in numerous magazines and some of his honors include the Guggenheim Fellowship, American Academy, and Institute of Arts and Letters. Dr. Bottoms will read selections from his poetry and answer questions about the craft and publication process of poetry.
At 2:30 there will be a short break for networking and a book-signing for Dr. David Bottoms.
From 3:00 to 3:45, we will present Dr. William Rawlings, a native of Sandersville, Georgia. He is a practicing physician, a world traveler, art collector, and author of four mystery novels, including his latest novel, “Crossword.” He has discovered rural Southern towns are an inspiration for rich writing. Dr. Rawlings will discuss strategies on finding time to write and effective ways to market your work know matter how busy you are. He will have a book-signing after his talk.
Attendees will have a chance to visit with speakers and network with other members from 3:45 to 4:30. All Atlanta Writers Club meetings are open to the public. www.atlantawritersclub.org.
